Sports Therapy and Kinesiology: Developing the Holistic Health Practitioner

Are you a personal trainer, massage therapist or movement professional with an interest in rehab or holistic approaches to training?
Are you a pilates or yoga teacher that wants to offer a more tailored approach to your clients?
Maybe you are a massage therapist that wants to know why your clients keep coming back with the same issues time and again?

If you are one of the above-mentioned health professionals or allied field then training for an accredited qualification in Sports Therapy Kinesiology may be for you.

Sports Therapy Kinesiology is an exciting spin off of traditional Kinesiology, in that it retains the core concepts such as muscle testing and acupressure but also expands to include techniques to specifically address the musculoskeletal system.

Kinesiology is an extremely powerful modality that can quickly find and address imbalances in the body and mind via muscle testing and other assessments. The ability to communicate with the nervous system takes out a lot of the guess work when assessing your clients and can lead to more accurate interventions and faster results.

Sports Therapy Kinesiology not only uses muscle monitoring but it draws from many other areas such as orthopedics, biomechanics, musculoskeletal therapy, exercise physiology, eastern medicine, applied kinesiology and functional neurology.

The modern-day fitness and health professional needs to have a holistic understanding of the body and mind to truly assist clients who are coming in for a health solution.

There is a move towards a more hybrid practitioner that can not only do hands on work but also assess well, understand the mind body relationship and provide accurate, effective corrective exercises that are based on human physiology. People can be complex and often require an integrative approach to get the results they are after.

For Personal Trainers, you will sharpen your exercise rehab skills, gain very effective hands on techniques (and know when to apply them) and learn to how assess each client individually. You will look like a star and the quality will shine right through leading to instant buy in. For example, if you have a new client you will be able to assess the client, deal with any injuries or compensations and build a solid foundation using the Sports Therapy Kinesiology framework. You will be the go to rehab trainer in your facility or area.

For massage therapists, you will learn different ways to apply your hands-on skills, utilize the acupressure system and learn how to prescribe effective corrective exercises to ensure long lasting results with your clients, leading onto more referrals. You can teach the client the reasons why they have these issues and help them take ownership of their pains and challenges

For Yoga and Pilates instructors, you will learn key information that will make you understand your craft more, help out those tricky students that need more individual care and add a more clinical focus to your practice.

Sports Therapy Kinesiology will provide you with a large tool belt of new skills to learn how to help people with pain, performance, postural or movement challenges. You will be able to work with people in pain such as shoulder, neck and back pain.  Neurological movement disorders such as Parkinson’s can be helped with Sports Therapy Kinesiology and much more. Sports Therapy Kinesiology can also help athletes with brain body communication to ensure optimal performance, recover from injuries and reduce stress.

Whether you are a PT, Pilates/Yoga Teacher, Massage therapist, another health professional or someone interested in becoming one, Sports Therapy Kinesiology can be the course for you. Whether you want to work in rehabilitation with the general population or performance and recovery with athletes and teams, Sports Therapy Kinesiology can get you there.
